Dave Unwin

In 1970 I entered the world of British animation as a trainee assistant animator and had ascended to the dizzy heights of directing when Lucinda contacted me to see if I was interested in the position of Principal Director on Novel’s production of ‘Horrid Henry’, then just beginning. Unusually the interview was held at Paddington station, it went well, and soon I was plunged into Henry’s hectic world, working closely with Lucinda and Mike to create the assets and supervise the production. My HH moniker was ‘Dizzy Dave’ and it was dizzying at times as we rode the rollercoaster of production, working with studios in India, China and back in the UK. Amazingly I became a celebrity amongst the kids of our village who all proved to be massive Henry fans, which of course was very pleasing – if they were happy then we were doing it right!
