Ash recently completed their Work Experience Week at Novel
As a big fan of Horrid Henry, I was super excited to have the opportunity to do a week’s work experience with Novel Entertainment. I spontaneously decided to apply whilst browsing their website, thinking it was a complete long shot, but it absolutely paid off!

Novel’s business is run remotely by a close-knit team working virtually so I was excited to join their daily conference calls online. During my time there, I was able to take on a variety of tasks, starting with transcribing videos. It was fascinating to be part of the process and also getting to watch some great upcoming videos! This really helped me understand how much work goes into each production – even after the video itself was finished!
The next task was working with Excel spreadsheets and sorting out some of their files. While this may sound boring, it was surprisingly enjoyable, and I loved the satisfaction of making sure Novel’s files were organised and accessible.

One of the most enjoyable parts of the experience was having the chance to talk to the team members. I had the opportunity to chat with people in different roles, who each gave me a different perspective on their work at Novel, as well as discussing opportunities in the film and TV industry. I was impressed with their knowledge and friendliness, and they were always happy to answer my questions and offer advice. I learned a lot from these conversations – and shoutout to Onyero, who gave me a lot of helpful resources and opportunities for getting into the industry! Thank you to all of the absolutely lovely team for all your help and time.
Overall, my work experience week was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the production process of my favourite show, meet amazing people, and gain insight into the entertainment industry. It was inspiring to see how much effort goes into creating quality content, and this experience has given me valuable skills, as well as helping to refine my future career path.
I would highly recommend work experience to anyone looking to gaining insight into their desired career path, or simply looking for an incredible experience with the team behind Horrid Henry! If you have a passion for entertainment and want to get a glimpse into how it all comes together, work experience at a TV company is an excellent place to start.
Thank you, Novel, for a memorable experience!
