It is often the simplest concepts that most successfully capture the public’s imagination and so is the case with Wordle. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what makes this game so captivating; its simplicity, its regularity, the ability to share your results with friends. Whatever it was had me, like many other, hooked, rushing to refresh our phones at midnight every day to see if this would be the day we get it on the first try (which still hasn’t happened by the way but I persevere).
Its popularity combined with its simplicity made it the prime target for many spin offs with a variety of different themes, including countries, flags, films, birds, music, football, maths, Shakespeare and many many more. Which got me to wondering how complicated it would be to make your own custom Wordle.
Now I am not much of a coder (aside from a few lessons in Matlab I dropped the first chance I could) but I had a friend who had already created one Wordle variant and was able to provide me with the basic code which I could use to create the most Horrid-themed Wordle yet!
All that remained was to select as many horrid words as possible! At present our Horridle has 30 possible correct answers, slightly more manageable than the 2,315 possible solutions to Wordle, and a new answer is randomly selected each time the page is refreshed you don’t need to wait 24 hours for your next fix of Horrid-themed word fun!
