Share a Story
CITV’s Share a Story returns in 2014!
CITV’s Children’s BAFTA-winning competition, Share a Story, is returning to the channel in March and is looking for a new bunch of lucky kids to make the leap from story-tellers to film-makers!
The competition itself is simple: children aged from 5 to 12 write and draw a short story. In a judging process overseen by children’s film-making charity First Light, professional animators, TV producers, and even past Share a Story winners, decide on this year’s best entries. Eight lucky winners will then have their stories turned into animations
and broadcast on CITV.
And that’s not all: the winning kids also visit
CITV at Salford’s MediaCIty UK as they’re taken behind the scenes of Share a Story. They’ll work closely with designers, animators and editors, and even record their own voiceover with guidance from professional VO artists.
Previous winners of Share a Story have found the experience to be an enriching one. Some have been inspired to read more, to write more stories, or even venture into other creative endeavours such as acting. 2010 winner Hannah Flint started making stop-motion animations in her spare time; her mum told us, “Hannah’s confidence and passion for all things animation has come from her experience”. Share a Story has had a profound effect on these kids’ lives.
Everything kids need to know will be available at itv.com/shareastory, including the storyboard and story page templates they need to complete, and the parental consent forms.
The competition itself kicks off onThursday20th March, (World Story telling Day) and runs until Friday 2nd May (6 weeks). (This includes school Easter holidays) Winners are announced in June. Children visit CITV in their summer holidays and finished animations are transmitted on the CITV Channel during October half term.
